One of the most discernible outcome of the increasing pace of urbanisation, along with the rise in the spate of consumerism in the post liberalised economic environment has been the dramatic rise in municipal solid waste generation across the urban centres world over and more so in the developing countries. Qualified as an urban and regional planner with academic interests, Dr Kiran Sandhu holds a PhD in Urban and Environmental Planning from the Cities Research Institute, Griffith School of Environment, Griffith University, Queensland on a full research grant. In terms of Dr Sandhu's professional pursuits, she has been an academic with twenty five years of experience with current engagement as an Associate Professor at School of Urban and Regional Planning, Guru Nanak Dev University in India.
