ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dr M. Ramachandran had a distinguished career of 38 years in the premier civil service of the country, the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), during which he held various key positions in the areas of policy making and program implementation at the state and central government levels. His last few assignments in service were: Infrastructure Development Commissioner in the state of Uttarakhand, Chief secretary to the Government of Uttarakhand and Secretary to the Ministry of Urban Development in Government of India.

During his illustrious career, he has held various transport sector assignments also. As chairperson of ten different city/area development authorities and as Divisional Commissioner and Chairman of the regional transport authorities, he has guided urban transport activities in three divisions consisting of 15 districts. Other positions held were: Vice chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Road Transport corporation, Chairman of Uttarakhand Transport Corporation, Chairman Metro Rail Corporations of Delhi/Kolkata/Chennai/Bangalore, Chairman of Urban Mass Transit company and Chairman of the Institute of Urban Transport.
